Abstract:Grain security is a crucial foundation for national security, and the development of agricultural digitization injects new momentum into safeguarding grain security. Based on a panel data from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 2012 to 2022, this paper employs the entropy method to measure the levels of agricultural digitization and grain security. Utilizing quantitative research methods such as panel quantile regression models, it examines the impact mechanism of agricultural digitization on grain security. Results indicate that: 1) Agricultural digitalization helps to enhance the national level of grain security, especially in areas with high levels of grain security; 2) The impact of agricultural digitalization on grain security has a threshold effect that depends on the scale of the agricultural industry; 3) Agricultural technological innovation is an important intermediary channel through which agricultural digitalization affects grain security; 4) Environmental regulation negatively moderates the impact of agricultural digitalization on grain security; and 5) In central regions, major grain-producing areas, and areas with high levels of agricultural production informatization, the empowering effects of agricultural digitalization are more pronounced. Therefore in order to comprehensively strengthen and continuously enhance grain security guarantee capabilities, this paper suggests: promoting the development of agricultural digitization, optimizing the structure of the agricultural industry, enhancing agricultural technological innovation capabilities, improving the environmental regulation policy system, fully leveraging the comparative advantages of various regions, and deeply tapping the development potential of agricultural digitization.
