Under the new development pattern, enhancing the international competitiveness of China’s tea industry is conducive to expanding tea export, which is an effective way to resolve the domestic overcapacity crisis. Based on the tea trade data from 2001 to 2020 in UNcomtrade database, this paper measures and compares the international competitiveness of China’s tea industry with the international market share, the revealed comparative advantage index, and the revealed comparative advantage weight index by the dual double diamond model. This paper also discussed the main factors affecting the international competitiveness of China’s tea industry. Results show that, in general, the international market of China’s tea industry was expanding, and it had a strong international competitiveness, but it was relatively weak compared with other exporting countries. From the perspective of tea products, green tea was China’s dominant product in international trade, especially the small package of green tea has maintained its absolute advantage for a long time, but the comparative advantage of black tea was obviously insufficient. Further analysis finds that the international competitiveness of China’s tea industry mainly comes from the rich natural resources and the huge domestic market, and the main constraints include the rising labor cost, weak tea technology innovation ability, low quality of exported tea, and imperfect standards related to pesticide residue. Therefore, to enhance the international competitiveness of China’s tea industry, this paper suggests to enhance tea technology innovation ability, to promote green and high-quality development of the tea industry, and to strengthen the construction of international talent team.
