Research on the impacts of high-standard farmland construction on green grain production

  • Continuously advancing the construction of high-standard farmland and promoting green grain production are crucial measures for ensuring China’s grain security and achieving sustainable agricultural development. Based on provincial panel data, this study employs a quasi-natural experiment design and a continuous DID model to systematically examine the impacts and mechanisms of high-standard farmland construction policies on green grain production. Results indicate that: 1) The construction of high-standard farmland has a significant policy effect in promoting green grain production, and this effect is more pronounced in planting areas dominated by dryland and paddy fields, as well as in non-major grain-producing regions; And 2) promoting agricultural production services and achieving an appropriate scale of operation are key pathways through which high-standard farmland construction facilitates green grain production. Therefore, in the process of building a strong agricultural nation, efforts should be made to actively advance the high-quality and sustainable development of high-standard farmland, pay attention to regional differences in policy implementation, and continuously promote the development of agricultural production services and land transfer to foster green grain production.
