Abstract: Vegetable industry is the livelihood industry. Studying the development of the vegetable industry, a pillar industry of the crop farming, in Harbin City is of great significance to development of agriculture, prosperity of rural areas, income of peasants and abundance of the city''s food basket. Systematic research was done on the scale of production, varieties, industrial chain as well as the level of production, based on which, the problems of the development of the vegetable industry in Harbin City were studied from the respects of self-sufficiency rate of fresh vegetables, the number of vegetable bases, the level of scientific vegetable planting, the rate of vegetable processing and converting, as well as the scientific and technical personnel. Strategies like to strengthen the vegetable base and construction of the market system, and to promote institutional and technological innovation are proposed.
