Abstract: Based on the output data of 9 products of animal husbandry industry of Gansu Province in 2001, 2007 and 2013, this paper analyzed the industrial concentration degree of animal husbandry industry and its 9 products by calculating the concentration ratio, the Herfindahl-Hirschman-Index, and the N index and identified the advantage regions of 9 products of animal industry according to geographic proximity and concentration ratio of each county. Results indicate that, for the animal husbandry industry of Gansu Province, the industrial concentration degree is very low and market uniformity ratio is very high, meaning that its production locations are scattered all of the province with relatively low competitiveness and low efficiency. Specifically, the production of honey, poultry and milk have higher degree of industrial concentration while the production of beef, pork, lamb and eggs have low degree of industrial concentration, and the production of goat hair and sheep wool are in between. Accordingly, the paper identified the regions with advantages of 9 products of animal husbandry industry by comparing the output shares, the geographical characteristics, and grassland and animal resources of Gansu Province. There is abundant grassland and hay resource in the western district, thus it included 8 product regions and should be developed as specialized animal husbandry industry belt. In south-central district, there are plenty of high mountain meadows, forest grasslands and artificial grasslands, which included 7 product regions and should be developed as ecological animal husbandry industry belt. In southeastern district, its climate is ideal for animal production, and is the largest production region of honey, beef, and goat hair, thus included 5 product regions and should be developed as intensive processing animal husbandry industry belt. Finally, in order to improve the industrial concentration and ensure the development of regions with advantages, this paper suggests to increase the product diversity, to improve operating system and market environment of animal industry for Gansu Province, to increase the concentration of the animal husbandry industry, and to enhance the regional advantages.
